Magnificent gilt bronze cartel from the Louis XV period!
The ribbed curves and counter-curves that adorn the asymmetrically shaped case start from the bottom of the movement to rise very high above: they show workmanship of breathtaking quality!
Beneath the movement, very in relief, a set of scrolls in foliated curves intersect while leaving remarkably balanced openwork. The ring grids decorated with square florets are cut out, revealing the pendulum.
On the left side, foliage descends downwards while on the right side a branch of flowers and leaves ascends upwards.
The enamel dial is signed Herbault in Paris. It is decorated with black Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes. Pierced and gilded copper hands.
The back plate is very nicely engraved: "Herbault A Paris" as well as No 186. Wire suspension and anchor escapement. The movement has been revised and has its original key.
Work from the Louis XV period, around 1750: Louis François Herbault was received as a master in 1743, he settled on Quai Pelletier from 1744 to 1748. He became a juror in 1761 and a guard in 1769.
The cartel has its original gilding with some reasonable wear which does not alter its aesthetics. One end of the minute hand has been repaired.
