Divine Beauty ! of an exhibition...

Annonciation, vers 1660, église Saint Jean de Caen, Calvados © Région Basse-Normandie - Inventaire général P. Merret

The churches of Calvados, Manche and Orne have unsuspected riches; 42 paintings, most of them never before exhibited, are gathered here and witness this religious pictorial production.

We discover local artists as well as large national painters, while getting to know the sponsors and donors in this region.

Sainte Famille, par Emile Signol, 1859, église de Bény-sur-Mer (Calvados)© Région Basse-Normandie - Inventaire général P. Merre

Following a thematic journey tracing the religious holidays, these paintings from the sixteenth to the twentieth centuries offer us a new perspective on low-Norman churches.

Another interest of this exhibition is the beautiful lighting of the paintings made by the museum, completely different from the churches.
We (re)discover many details or colors of these very pretty pictures.
